Copy Or Move Files Faster In Windows Vista

If you use Windows Vista you already know how painful is copy or move a large file, well here you have an alternative program to windows copy program.

TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, providing the user a lot of features:

  • Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives.
  • Pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click.
  • Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer.
  • Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files.
  • Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.
  • Full Unicode support.

Microsoft $300M Ads

This Sunday I was watching Steelers vs Eagles game and I saw a Microsoft’s commercial ad that shows people saying they are PCs. I tried to understand the commercial and the only thing I can conclude is that Microsoft spend a lot of money just to tell us what you, me and everybody already know.

All the people who owns a computer is a PC person; no matter what Operating System you are using (Windows, Linux or OS X) all of them are installed on a PC (PERSONAL COMPUTER) so this is nothing to be a WINDOWS PERSON as Microsoft try to explain.

The other ads with Jerry Seinfeld the only thing they promote is Apple ads, the first thing we all think when we saw this ads is Apple Mac vs PC ads.

What do you think? …

Large Files In Windows Vista

Sometimes I have a lot of problems to copy a large file or directory in windows vista and this becomes a real pain in the a**. Well the other day doing a search I found a website with the solution or at least something that help a little.

When you tried to copy or move a big file you find a stupid screen telling you that windows is trying to calculate the time to calculate the time … to calculate the time he needs to move or copy something. I do not know who was the idiot with this brilliant idea.

Well there are 2 solutions one is:

Open Administrative Mode Command Prompt

Either type cmd into the start menu and use Ctrl+Shift+Enter or right-click the Command Prompt shortcut and choose Run as Administrator.

Turn Off Auto-Tuning

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

You’ll have to reboot your system, but once you do, the problems should be resolved. If they are not you can always turn auto-tuning back on.

Other way is:

Use Robocopy

Use the Robocopy utility that is included with Windows Vista to copy the files. For example, type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

Robocopy source_path destination_path file_name

For more information about how to use Robocopy, type Robocopy /? at a command prompt, and then press ENTER.
