AutoCAD is the most well-known computer aided design (CAD) product on the market. QCad Community Edition

Is an open source edition of RibbonSoft’s CAD system. QCad is a 2D CAD application that aims at being simple enough for anyone to use - even users with no previous CAD experience. Compared to the Professional edition the Community Edition has no scripting or poly-line support - also features are a few months behind. Features include layers, dxf files import and export, many flexible drawing tools and precise selection tools.

BRL-CAD
Available for: Windows, Mac, Linux and Unix

Is an open source cad systems based around constructive solid geometry (csg) modeling. On top of all of it’s modeling features, such as the interactive geometry editor, BRL-CAD offers parallel ray-tracing, path-tracing, image and signal processing tools. The ray-tracing process can even be distribution over a network of computers. When starting a new model determining an accurate unit of measurement ensures that your models will always have the correct proportions compared to real world objects. CSG is a fascinating way to work with 3d modeling and allows you to quickly build rough models and can be finalized later with all required details.

Archimedes
Available for: Windows, Mac, Linux

Is a computer aided design (CAD) solution focusing on architectural design. While the current version of Archimedes may not be mature enough for all - this project is very promising. It already has many of the most common and advance drawing features you will find in a commercial CAD solution. However, it’s interoperability with other products is still lacking. On the other hand drawing can be exported in scalable vector graphics (SVG) format - allowing you to share finished drawings with a wide audience without requiring them to install the product.
This is a great upcoming project started in Brazil - their goals are to create a real alternative for AutoCAD, but make it more suited for architects.

There is a site that contains a lot of themes for your iPhone/iPod Touch for Free, You just have to register for free and in a few minutes you can share your items with the community.

You can upload or download a lot of themes for your device, to upload just zip your theme and upload it and immediately you can see an image of your theme.

For download the theme just click on the theme you like and you are going to download a zip file. Before installation unzip it.

To install it on your iPhone or iPod Touch just follow this:

You have a folder per theme so just copy the folder of the new theme via FTP, to do that check the IP address of your device and using an FTP program access to your device using the IP address and,

You can see that the all the themes already installed on the device. So now just copy the folder of your new theme into the iPhone folder and that is all you need.

Now go to execute SMBPref in your iPhone and select the new theme you just installed in it.

This past days I need the Visio program from Microsoft but the price is a little bit over my budget so I tried to find some alternatives and here are the results.

ArgoUML

ArgoUML is a great UML (Unified Modeling Language) tool. Written in Java and using Java Web Start makes it easy to work with (install) and use on any platform. It has full support for the UML 1.4 standard and provides excellent features to drawing and manipulating you UML diagrams. Like many other UML tools of this caliber ArgoUML provides code generation. The following programming languages are support for code generation: Java, C++, C# and PHP. The Java support is best since it can be used for round-trip engineering using the reverse engineering feature. ArgoUML also has partial support for user models such as decision model, goals model, etc. Finally diagrams can be exported in many graphical formats, primarily GIF, PNG, PS and SVG.

StarUML

StarUML is a great open source UML application. Supporting UML 2.0 and MDA (Model Driven Architecture) StarUML let’s you work with all related diagrams. Code generation can be done for Java, C++ and C# - and documentation can be generated for all of the Microsoft Office suite programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. StarUML is easily extensible through modules using a COM-based plug-in architecture - and by use of templates allowing you a make new code generators. StarUML even imports from Rational Rose.

Dia

Dia is designed to be much like the commercial Windows program ‘Visio’. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flow charts, network diagrams, and simple circuits. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.

It can load and save diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to save space), can export diagrams to EPS or SVG formats and can print diagrams (including ones that span multiple pages).
